What is the difference between BT and CAT 40 tooling?
WEBDec 19, 2009 — Here is the big one.....The small end of the tool holder on a metric (BT) is about .115 inches different. If you would try to use CAT and BT in the same machine, tool retention would be wrong, wrong wrong..... The inch CAT holders are longer relative to the gage line. The 40 taper holders seem to be the only ones that have that difference.

There is a pull stud placard on the column that shows the dimensions for both Cat-40 and BT-40 pull studs. I have no idea if the spindle is original, or if it has been changed and am trying to figure out if it's BT-40 or CAT-40.
