WEBFeb 27, 2021 · I typically set a 25 degree bevel and I've found Microtech edges are often just a bit steeper, like 27 degrees or so. They sharpen by hand and I'm not sure if they use guides so your mileage may vary. The tip on the tantos is always a larger angle which I taper down so it's a consistent angle for the entire edge.

WEBShort answer, yes. I think you should grab one but grab a Tanto edge or single edge. I’ve had multiple double edge ultratechs and for real everyday use they don’t work as well. If you want a blade to carry as a “self defense” blade then grab a D/E but I’d recommend a Tanto edge or grab a stitch auto or Socom elite.

WEBDec 24, 2020 · Not really, I love knives and love microtech but day to day the worst they get used is for zip ties and boxes. I have some old slipjoints I whittle with, and a couple beaters I keep around for anything dirty/loaning out. Regardless if someone wants to buy a knife and baby it who cares, it's their money.

While I agree that with use the action gets easier, I haven't struggled to open any brand new microtech I've bought since getting used to opening the first microtech I purchased 12 years ago.
