I would suggest about 3 hours. The film was good and there is quite alot of reading in the Visitor Centre. I went on the Ranger led walk to the house (the Ranger very kindly did the tour in the pouring rain when I was the only participant). I was there for about 3 hours in total. Given the rain the tour to the house was quick and I didn't spend any extra time outside. I also rushed the Visitor Centre a bit though I am inclined to read every last word! It was MUCH more interesting than I was expecting.
