An Air India plane carrying 242 people has crashed in Ahmedabad, in one of the country's worst aviation disasters in decades.Video footage shows the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane - which had been bound for London Gatwick - coming down just outside Ahmedabad airport,

The Tata Group, which bought the airline three years ago, has been trying to improve operations at a time of great change in India’s aviation market.

Sumeet Sabharwal, who the Indian government has said had 8,200 flying hours of experience and was also an Air India instructor, was the commanding pilot of flight AI171. His co-pilot was Clive Kunder who had 1,100 hours of experience. Mr Sabharwal’s funeral took place in Mumbai on Tuesday.
