The Rings of Power” has reached 55 million global viewers since its launch 34 days ago on Aug. 29. That’s an increase of only 15 million viewers since the total of 40 million that the company reported 11 days after launch.

But now, it has gone down to #2 behind a surprising new series that is apparently drawing a number of eyes. It’s not a scripted show, but a three-part docuseries called Evolution of the Black Quarterback, an examination of black quarterbacks in the NFL, hosted by Michael Vick. Prime Video is expecting more “growth and momentum” for Season 2 over time, though as Deadline previously reported, the series has been struggled to retain a large portion of its Season 1 audience. Samba TV data shows that the Season 2 premiere episode drew half the audience that the first episode of Season 1 drew in less time.

One of the big questions about the Stranger’s identity was whether it actually made sense that he is Gandalf. The big issue arises is that according to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Appendix B, Gandalf didn’t actually arrive in Middle-earth until the Third Age – specifically via a ship at the Grey Havens, where he met Cirdan and was given his ring.
