The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) announced the cat’s death Thursday. The death comes after a bird flu outbreak at Washington’s Wild Felid Advocacy Center this month. The outbreak killed 20 big cats, including African servals, bobcats, and cougars.

A Portland-based pet food company issued a nationwide voluntary recall after a house cat in Oregon died from eating one of its products, which tested positive for bird flu.

Health officials were warning residents Wednesday not to feed their pets raw food following a voluntary recall of Northwest Naturals Brand 2lb Feline Turkey Recipe Raw & Frozen Pet Food due to detection of H5 bird flu virus in product samples.
