Tens of thousands of workers marched in the Belgian capital against Audi’s plans to shutter plants in Belgium as carmaker Volkswagen launches a global assault on jobs.

Around 3000 workers may soon be out of their jobs if Audi sticks with its current plans. The Volkswagen Group has found itself under fire in Belgium over the potential of an impending closure at its Brussels manufacturing plant — and its employees are fighting back in an unusual way, according to the union that represents them.

Thousands of workers brought chaos to Brussels on Monday, setting off firecrackers and blocking streets near the European Parliament, in a demonstration to show solidarity with employees from an Audi car factory facing possible closure.
