In accordance with a proclamation from Trump, Shapiro ordered flags in Pennsylvania to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Sunday in honor of Kirk. Political violence has been rising in the United States in recent times, John Hopkins University reported in June.

But Trump somewhat tempered his criticism of mail-in voting in 2024 given how many Republicans use mail-in voting.
"We got him," Utah Governor Spencer Cox said after authorities apprehended Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspected of killing the conservative activist.
