Usually, whether someone was pardoned for something isn’t a matter of debate. But it’s one of the latest legal questions raised by Trump’s blanket clemency for Jan. 6 defendants, at a time when his administration has been supporting those defendants and attempting to rid the government of the people who worked on their cases.

An anonymous group of FBI agents and employees took the unusual step on Tuesday of suing the U.S. Justice Department in a bid to prevent President Donald Trump and his allies from publicly disseminating a list of names of all the bureau's employees who worked on Jan.

Attorneys for the agents said using information about cases involving Jan. 6 or President Donald Trump to fire FBI employees would be unlawful and retaliatory.

"We urge you to work with President Trump to prevent acting officials from taking personnel actions that undermine our shared goal of keeping the FBI out of politics," the groups

FBI leaders have sent to the Justice Department information about agents and other employees who worked on cases related to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, according to a person familiar with the action.
