There's no sense in finger-pointing over whether or not alerts went out fast enough in Texas, said Landry. As she sees it, preparing for the weather comes down to knowing the landscape where you live and planning out what to do if disaster strikes. "You have to be aware and prepared," she said.

President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed support for flood alarms in Texas and said he thinks “everyone’s doing a great job” responding to a disaster that has left more than 100 people dead and 170 people missing.

In the early morning hours of July 4th, torrential rains triggered flash flooding in central Texas. At least 120 people were killed, including dozens of children who were at summer camps along the Guadalupe River.
