Tokyo is hoping to avoid falling into the firing line after U.S. President Donald Trump followed through on his campaign promise to impose steep tariffs on three trading partners.

A growing number of countries, including American allies, are striking trade deals as the Trump administration erects a higher fence around its global commerce.

The UK is "out of line" in its trade with the US but the situation can be "worked out", President Donald Trump says. Asked by the BBC if he would target the UK with tariffs while arriving into Maryland from Florida, the US leader says: "We'll see what happens, it'll happen."
