New Mexico's governor declared an emergency Thursday after a powerful winter storm left tens of thousands of people without power as heavy snow, fierce winds and freezing temperatures marched across the northern two-thirds of the state and into Colorado.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued two statewide emergency declarations this week in response to winter storms that hit areas of New Mexico.

The emergency declarations allocate $1.5 million to support agencies responding to the impactful winter storm.

A winter weather storm continued to blast parts of New Mexico on Thursday and Friday. While some areas like Albuquerque caught a break from the snow, Las Vegas got pummeled with 21.2 to 31.7 inches in some areas.

Winter Storm Warnings, as well as Blizzard Warnings, are now less widespread across northeast New Mexico, as lingering snow, subsiding freezing fog, gusty winds, and cold air will continue to be the main threats for many areas through the overnight hours.
