Mikie Sherrill, the first Democratic woman to win a New Jersey governor’s race, will be sworn in Tuesday as the state’s 57th chief executive.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is scheduled to deliver his final State of the State address in the Assembly chambers at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Murphy will leave office Jan. 20 when his term ends, and Mikie Sherrill will assume the reins as the state’s chief executive.

Murphy is term-limited to two four-year terms. Democratic U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill , who won New Jersey's gubernatorial race in November to succeed him, will be inaugurated Jan. 20 in Newark.

Sherrill was sworn in as governor at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.
