Mario Kart World is the Switch 2 launch title that most people will recognize, but it wasn't always intended to be one. In fact, the game's developers have revealed they actually wanted to release the open-world racer on the original Switch console. But the older hardware just couldn't handle it.

Mario Kart World was originally going to be another regular Mario Kart game. The technical constraints of the Nintendo Switch were distressing the team, The change to development for the Switch 2 was "a ray of hope" for the Mario Kart World team.

Nintendo have already revealed a partial look at its slate for the Nintendo Switch 2, and it seems the Mario franchise is set to play a major part.
