A newly unveiled sculpture of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and two corgis in Northern Ireland, intended to pay tribute to the late monarch, has received somewhat mixed reviews from the public.

A new statue unveiled to honor Queen Elizabeth II is instead drawing criticisms online for its portrayal of the late monarch. The bronze statue of Elizabeth, who died in 2022 at the age of 96, was unveiled on Sept. 6, in Antrim Castle Gardens in Antrim and Newtownabbey, in Northern Ireland.

Many locals and users online argue that the sculpture, which is on display at Antrim Castle Gardens, hardly resembles the late British monarch.

For centuries, sculptors have been in a rarefied position of privilege, able to define what any great person of an age looks like without fear of contradiction. But now, it seems almost a natural reflex that every time another sculpture of a public figure is unveiled,
