SAN JOSE – Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run last week in San Jose. The collision happened between 5:45 and 6:05 p.m. on Jan. 25 at South Bascom Avenue and Borello Drive, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.
The crash marks the city’s first roadway death and first pedestrian death of the year. In 2025, San Jose police investigated 41 traffic deaths, including 19 instances involving pedestrian victims. Nine traffic deaths last year involved hit-and-run drivers, according to data compiled by this news organization.

Pedestrian killed in San Jose
Authorities in San Jose are investigating a pedestrian death after a person was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning near Story Road and King Road.
