More than 12,000 structures have been burned to the ground as firefighters are attempting to put out the devastating fires plaguing the Southland. At least 24 people have been killed, but public officials warn the number is expected to rise.

Weary and anxious from a week of massive blazes burning around Los Angeles, Southern California residents faced dire new wildfire warnings Tuesday while preparing to flee at a moment's notice as fire-fueling winds blasted the area again.

Eaton Fire initially started 6:18 p.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. Since its discovery a week ago, it has burned 14,117 acres. A fire crew of 3,392 has been working on site and, as of Tuesday evening, they managed to contain 35% of the fire. However, investigations into the cause are ongoing.

A beefed-up firefighting force was staged around Los Angeles to attack flare-ups or new blazes and anxious residents prepared for more fire danger as winds began to build Tuesday, a week after two massive infernos destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 24 people.

The Auto Fire has burned nearly 61 acres in Ventura, California Monday night and was at 47% containment Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters on Jan. 13 fought to control the Auto Fire, a new wildfire that broke out in Ventura County, about 40 miles west of the Palisades Fire.

Firefighters say winds between 20 and 30 mph were blowing through the area as they attempted to quell the flames burning in the Santa Clara Riverbed.
