The Environmental Protection Agency told more than 450 employees working in diversity, equity and inclusion -- as well as environmental justice -- they would be fired or reassigned.

The Environmental Protection Agency sent termination notices on Tuesday to staff who work on environmental justice programs at its headquarters and across regional offices, saying their work no longer aligns with the mission of the agency.

The Trump administration's press release announcing the end of the lawsuit said the dismissal fulfilled the president's Day One executive order to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion, and that it aligned with the EPA's new pledge to "end the use of 'environmental justice' as a tool for advancing ideological priorities."
