GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WILX) -Michigan State’s hockey team won the Great Lakes Invitational Hockey Tournament Monday night with a 3-1 victory over Western Michigan in the GLI Championship Game in Grand Rapids. It’s the Spartans’ 13th title in GLI history but the first time MSU has won it since 2009.

In the 58th annual GLI, Michigan State won its 13th title. That's the most among active participants, passing Michigan Tech at 12. Michigan, who hasn't played in the GLI since 2021's showcase, holds the most championships at 17.

Joey Larson scored the game-winning goal in the third period as MSU captured its first Great Lakes Invitational title in 15 years.
