The current and former chiefs of the Minneapolis Police Department are pushing back on efforts to rewrite history five years after the murder of George Floyd.

According to court records, 18-year-old Demario Lee Dempsey – who was initially charged as a teen with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder for the Aug. 20, 2023, shooting – entered guilty pleas to three counts of attempted intentional second-degree murder on Tuesday during a hearing.

Jeanie Childs was found stabbed more than 60 times in her Minneapolis apartment. Bloody footprints and unknown DNA left investigators without answers until a 2015 cold-case review and public DNA database finally pointed to a suspect.

Activists say they are not surprised the Trump administration pulled out of a consent decree covering Minneapolis police, but are frustrated the city didn't finalize it sooner.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said, "We're doing it anyway" after learning the Department of Justice has filed a motion to dismiss the consent decree that was created in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder.

Sahra Mohamed Nur, 63 of Minneapolis, has been sentenced to 51 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release for her role in a $250 million fraud scheme that exploited a federally funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nur was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $5,000,240.
