Kenji Nonaka was bitten on the leg by a shark while surfing at the "Sand Piles" on Waiehu Beach Park on Friday, Nov. 1

Just after 7 p.m. local time Thursday, the 28-year-old man from Port Lincoln, a city on the Eyre Peninsula, was surfing near Granites Beach, south of Streaky Bay, when witnesses reported seeing a shark attack him, South Australia Police wrote in a news release early Friday.

Two months after losing a part of his right leg to a shark bite, Kenji Nonaka is grateful to finally be back surfing again.

Kenji Nonaka was surfing on the north central side of Maui when a shark attacked his right leg, sending him to the hospital and on a road to recovery. But through it all, Nonaka was determined to return to the ocean.

I love surfing, I want to go back surfing,” said 61-year-old Kenji Nonaka after surviving a shark attack while surfing in Waiehu. After two months, Kenji finally fulfilled his wishes, returning to the water after a lengthy recovery.
