The Israeli-Hamas conflict has created tension across California and in Sacramento. Now, several faith-based leaders are concerned the rift remains after Wednesday's announced ceasefire.

There is cautious optimism among San Diego’s Middle Eastern communities over the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal. Members of the House of Israel and House of Palestine, both located at Balboa Park, said the terms of the agreement give them hope after 15 months of agony that included protests for peace and vigils to honor victims of the war.

Officials representing Israel and Hamas said today that the two sides had agreed to a 42-day cease-fire that would coincide with the release of Israeli hostages who have been held captive in Gaza. The final details are still being worked out, but the tentative agreement raised hopes that there could soon be an end to the war.

In Gaza, Palestinians can expect the fighting to stop and the Israeli army to withdraw to the east, away from populated areas, allowing civilians to return to their shattered homes. Around 90% of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million people has been displaced.

Optimistic but cautious is how some feel after a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas was reached on Wednesday.
