Ice hockey is coming back to Trenton as the Utah Grizzlies become the Trenton Ironhawks, embracing the city's industrial heritage with new colors and a fierce logo.

New Jersey state lawmakers on Monday sent a trio of pro-immigrant bills to Gov. Phil Murphy’s desk, a move that has already drawn criticism from the White House and raised tensions between Garden State leaders and the Trump administration.

The team’s president, Bob Ohrablo, announced the new name, logo and team colors at CURE Insurance Arena – where the Ironhawks will play -- during an event on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Mercer County Executive Dan Benson and Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora also attended the event.

Hockey is returning to New Jersey's capital city, and on Tuesday officials unveiled the name of the city's new minor league hockey team: the Trenton Ironhawks.

On Monday, the final day of the current New Jersey legislative session, lawmakers in the General Assembly and state Senate passed three bills designed to strengthen public trust and safety in immigrant communities across the Garden State, and to protect them from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and roundups.

The Assembly members sworn in Tuesday included 68 incumbents and 12 first-termers, including five Democrats who flipped GOP seats.

Former New Jersey Gov. Richard J. Codey died peacefully at home surrounded by family after a brief illness, his family announced. He was 79 years old.
