The Dallas Cowboys have chosen coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as the 10th coach in franchise history, Jerry Jones told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Cowboys promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, and it is "Schotty's'' plan to serve as his own play-caller.

“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” Jones said, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. “He ain’t Brian no more,” Jones puzzlingly added. “He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”

Schottenheimer was an assistant with the St. Louis Rams, Kansas City, Washington, the San Diego Chargers and Jacksonville along with three one-year stops in college. His 14 years as an offensive coordinator include six with the Jets, three with the Rams and Seahawks and two with the Cowboys.

Schottenheimer began his coaching career back in 1997 when he landed an assistant position with the St. Louis Rams. Over the years, he has served on the coaching staff for teams such as the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and several others.

To say the NFL is perplexed at Jerry Jones' choice for Dallas' next head coach would be a massive understatement.

Jerry Jones was almost in tears while speaking about his ability to find top head coaches for the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed Monday that, yes, he and Pro Football Hall of Famer/Colorado head coach Deion Sanders spoke before the team eventually hired Schottenheimer as the 10th head coach in franchise history.
