Unions have filed a lawsuit to prevent the Trump administration from terminating collective bargaining for thousands of TSA officers. The legal action claims the termination is retaliatory, following challenges against the administration's policies.

The Trump administration says the move will improve the passenger experience, but union officials fear it will harm morale and hurt recruiting efforts.

A union representing Transportation Security Administration workers calls the Department of Homeland Security's decision to end the collective bargaining agreement with them an “unprovoked attack.”

"Attempting to negate [TSA workers'] legally binding collective bargaining agreement now makes zero sense – it will only reduce morale and hamper the workforce," said Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi and ranking member of the Committee on Homeland Security, in a statement on Friday.

The Trump administration said Friday it is ending collective bargaining for about 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers that staff checkpoints at U.S. airports and other transportation hubs.

The union for Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) employees is suing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after she said she was ending a collective bargaining agreement signed last year. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) argues Noem has no power to end an already authorized seven-year contract,
