The LA County Sheriff's Department said the shooting occurred around 7:20 a.m. in the neighborhood of Willowbrook as federal agents were conducting an operation.

DHS said a border patrol agent fired on a suspect who weaponized his car as a weapon against the officer.

Carballo was not hit, officials said, and he was later taken into custody.
