PETA has requested that a cake be used for Groundhog Day rather than Punxsutawney Phil - the groundhog typically used to determine whether February will be longer or shorter. The famed animal rights association has written to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club,

Groundhog Day is just around the corner, and PETA is again trying to offer up an alternative to Punxsutawney Phil.

The proposed cake will be cut to expose one of two colors: blue, signifying six more weeks of winter, or pink, indicating an early spring.

In lieu of Punxsutawney Phil forecasting the weather on Groundhog Day, the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering to send a “weather reveal” vegan cake this year.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has announced that they have offered the Groundhog Club President a yearly sweet treat to make their weather prediction in exchange for the retirement of Punxsutawney Phil.
