He became one of the first Black executives to thrive in Hollywood and leaves behind a vast musical catalog that includes some of the richest moments of American song and rhythm.

Jones died on Sunday, Nov. 3 at age 91 at his home in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, surrounded by family, according to a statement from his publicist, Arnold Robinson.

There was little Jones did not do in a music career of more than 65 years. He was a trumpeter, bandleader, arranger, composer, producer and winner of 28 Grammy Awards.
