An Ohio woman is suing her hometown, her healthcare providers and law enforcement after she was arrested for having a miscarriage about a year ago.

Investigators questioned the woman in her hospital room as she awaited surgery “scared and nervous,” the lawsuit said. Eventually, she was charged with abuse of a corpse, and on Oct. 5, 2023, she was arrested at her home.

Police were so determined to charge Watts, her lawyers say, that they recorded “flatly false information” in police reports, including a bizarre lie that Watts threw her baby away in a bucket.

An Ohio woman who was criminally charged after having a miscarriage in her home has filed a federal lawsuit against an the city of Warren, city police officers, a local hospital and its owners.
