The New York Police Department’s Harbor Unit pulled the remains out of the river near Governor's Island around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to ABC News, authorities from the New York Police Department's Harbor Unit made the grim discovery at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 1st Precinct near Governors Island. The crew of a ferry reportedly first spotted the suitcase bobbing in the water and cruised alongside it, attempting to pull in onboard.

The human remains were found stuffed inside the suitcase that was pulled from the New York river on Wednesday afternoon and they have since been taken for examination
