A federal judge in Illinois dismissed a Trump administration lawsuit Friday that sought to disrupt limits Chicago imposes on cooperation between federal immigration agents and local police.

The Justice Department argued that Illinois leaders were “minimally enforcing — and oftentimes affirmatively thwarting” federal investigations, resulting in “countless criminals being released into Chicago.

A federal judge dismissed the Trump administration’s lawsuit against Illinois and Chicago over “sanctuary” policies that prevent local officials from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
