Downtown Atlanta was filled with high energy Saturday morning as more than a thousand runners, walkers, and first responders participated in the annual Atlanta’s Finest 5K.

Runners at the Atlanta’s Finest 5K race on Saturday raised money for the family of DeKalb County police Officer David Rose, who was killed in the line of duty last week.

Officer David Rose was gunned down during the shooting near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Aug. 8.

The race is known for raising money to support public safety programs, but this year, it carries a much deeper meaning.

Luke’s Wings provided 15 free flights to bring loved ones of fallen DeKalb County Officer David Rose to Atlanta.

Dispatch records and scanner traffic, mostly from the Atlanta Police Department since DeKalb’s records are part of an active investigation, are painting a picture on what happened that day.
