Stuttgart is the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg and one of Germany’s major industrial hubs. The city was first mentioned in 950 AD as Stutengarten — meaning “mare’s garden.” Today, it is known as the birthplace of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, both of which have museums you can visit. In 1805, Stuttgart became the capital of the Kingdom of Württemberg. One of its landmarks is the New Palace (Neues Schloss, 1746–1807), built for Duke Carl Eugen.
