Desmond Doss was the first conscientous objector to receive the Medal of Honor. He saved at least 75 men at Hacksaw Ridge, singlehandledly dragging them to safety. The battlefield medic refused to carry a weapon as he focused on healing instead of destroying. He didn't even have to join the military because he already worked in ship-building. Doss also inspired the Mel Gibson-directed movie starring Andrew Garfield. | History Collection
