Scribonius Largus, a physician who accompanied the Roman Emperor Claudius on his invasion of Britain, wrote a book called the Compositiones (1st Century C.E.). This listed 271 different ‘prescriptions’ for various diseases and two of his methods included using electric rays to help numb pain. Want to learn more about electric rays?
