The Pigeon Mountain Tunnel. March 17, 1888 the construction of this 92 mile stretch of the Chattanooga Southern Railway began. The line would run from Chattanooga to Gadsden serving the transportation needs of agricultural cotton and iron ore. The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has named Mount Aloysius College the winner of the 12th annual “Institutional Peak Performer Award.” The AMCC presents this award to the college with the highest percentage of student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference Team. Mount Aloysius has won the award five times - the most in conference history - and also broke conference history this year with more than 66% of Mountie student-athletes achieving the honor of “Academic All-Conference.
