STRONG APACHE WOMAN The Apache are a Native American people native to the southwestern United States. They were nomadic warriors, hunters, and survival experts in desert and mountainous areas. Their culture is centered on family, oral traditions, and a deep respect for nature. They resisted Spanish and later American colonization for a long time, with famous leaders like Geronimo. Meet Apache 8, an all-women wildland firefighter crew from the White Mountain Apache Tribe. The first women’s crew Apache 6 started in 1974. Since then, generations of Apache women have joined Apache men as wildland firefighters taking on monumental blazes on the Reservation and throughout the United States.
